On the 12th of June, 1940, Edsel Bryant Ford telephoned William Signius Knudsen from the US Office of Production. The telephone call was made by Edsel Ford in order to confirm his company that will manufacture 9,000 Rolls Royce engines for British and US airplanes!

Different from other automakers, Ford had already produced an efficient airplane back in 1920! The airplane called Tri-Motor! So, engaging Ford on building Rolls Royce engines turned out to be a good decision. In May 1941, Edsel Bryant Ford opened a huge new facility in Michigan that was sponsored by the government! The new facility was built with the reason to build B-24E Liberator bombers! Ford also manufactured a variety of trucks, tanks, jeeps and tank destroyers for the Allied War Effort!
