Robert Knievel was a modern day gladiator who risked life and limb to prove that he, unlike other mortal men, could defy gravity. He ended up crushing his pelvis and femur, fracturing his wrist, hip and both ankles, suffering a severe concussion as well. With this jump, his popularity was skyrocketing and he propelled into popular culture. He retired at the top with holding the world record for jumping over most busses with a Harley Davidson. Yes, with a 300 pound motorcycle! He passed away from pulmonary disease at the age of 69. Evel Knievel is mostly remembered for his brazen attitude, Elvis Presley-style jumpsuits, and absolute disregard towards his personal safety.
