ON THIS DAY: 5th June 1998 – Autoworkers’ Union Calls GM Motors Strike In Flint Factory!

Today is the day when the Autoworkers` Union decided to enter in strike at GM parts factory! On June the 5th, 1998, a huge number of 3,400 workers walked out of their jobs! The number rose to 5,800 after the first couple of days. That`s when the famous GM Motors strike happened!

The GM Motors Strike emerged on the 5th of June 1998 when the UAW stated that the company broke a commitment made in 1995. They were obliged to spend $300 million in the facility in order to upgrade it. The strike ended when the company and the Workers union reached an agreement! GM was not going to close several of the striking factories, while workers would change the working rules. That meant a 15% increase of the daily output!
