Powerful Magnitude 6.9 Northern California Earthquake!

A very powerful Northern California earthquake with magnitude of 6.9 struck in the Pacific Ocean 4.3 miles beneath the seabed off the California coast at Sunday night at 10:18 p.m. according to the United States Geological Survey!

The eartquake hit about fifty miles west of Eureka and it was followed by several aftershocks, including the strongest one with magnitude of 4.6. However, there is not any threat of a tsunami, according to the PTWC -- Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.




The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, informed there have been no calls about injuries or damage!

“This lasted longer than any earthquake I’ve ever felt,” Raquel Maytorena, 52, who lives about a mile from the coast in Ferndale near Eureka, told The Los Angeles Times. “It just kept going and going, very slowly and softly. It was not violent. It almost felt like you were in a boat that was rocking.”

And according to the NEIC -- National Earthquake Information Center, based on the past temblors and tectonics, casualties and damages were unlikely.
