“FAST & FURIOUS” Franchise – 1969 Dodge Charger DAYTONA!

FAST & FURIOUS 1969 Dodge Charger DAYTONA!

As we all know it, in the Fast & Furious franchise, Dom Toretto`s most dramatic and turbulent relationship was with that awesome black blown 1970 Dodge Charger. But in the sixth movie, instead of it, he is driving the legendary 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. And it seems only logical, as he evolves from a street racing Los Angeles rebel into a leader of a diverse family of international heist-masters. The choice of a little bit slicker and more refined muscle car like the iconic `69 Charger Daytona is pretty much suitable, wouldn’t you agree?

1969 Dodge Charger Daytona became as an aerodynamically improved version of the Charger, built to race and compete on super-speedways as Talladega and, of course, Daytona. It came to life thanks to the eternal rivalry between Dodge and Ford, as an answer to the Ford`s long-nose Torino Talladega, and right away it was a huge success on the track. It is the very first car that ran a lap over 200 mph so it should not be a surprise that there were many legendary stories about it, before the Fast & Furious film ever came out.

The film version of the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, just like all the other cars in the franchise, was `prepared` by Dennis McCarthy’s shop, and just like many of them, it is powered by GM’s 6.2 liter LS3 V8 engine that generates around 430 HP. When it comes to the suspension, instead of the stock torsion bars, at the front they are using Reilly Motorsports’ “AlterKtion” coil-over system, and the Reilly’s “triangulated four-bar” system is responsible for the tail. The choice for brakes at all four corners is to use Brembo calipers, and for the rear wheels, there is a second set of calipers that is hooked up to an individual braking circuit, so that the stuntmen could have better sideways control.

Check out the following two videos – in first one you will learn about the technical specs, especially about the brake system of this great car, and in the second, you can see it in its original movie form, being exposed at 2013 SEMA.
