On the 15th of May, 1942, the eastern states began gas rationing WW2 as the war was at full effect at the time! Only 17 states practiced gas rationing at first. However, President Roosevelt made sure all 48 states as well as Hawaii and Alaska would practice it by the end of the year!

As part of the gas rationing WW2 practice, local boards would issue gas stamps and place them on people`s windshields. There were different kinds of stamps! Black ones, for utilized travel vehicles which allowed them to use three gallons a week. Red stamps were placed on working vehicles such as mail vans!
