The Day North Korea Fired A Missile At SR 71 Blackbird!

Today we shall focus on one of the best reconnaissance aircraft ever to be used by the US Air Force. We are talking about the Lockheed SR 71 Blackbird. One of the most amazing facts about this plane is the fact that is has never been shot down by enemies. Even though it has been out of service for almost 20 years, it is still considered the fastest manned aircraft! This plane was used throughout the 70s and 80s, mostly for strategic reconnaissance.

On one particular occasion however, one SR 71 Blackbird was very close to being shot down! This happened on August 26, 1981 in a demilitarized zone between South Korea and North Korea. It was on a mission to find out the location of North Korean anti-aircraft missiles.

Even though this mission took place in a demilitarized zone, it was still within reach of enemy missiles. On the third pass, a guided missile was fired towards the SR 71 Blackbird! How did this drama end? Watch the video below to find out!
