This MEGA Machine Builds Massive Subway Tunnels!

Check out this amazing technology MEGA Machine for building tunnels…

With the advance of technology, new machines have arisen and they are more powerful than ever. Such mega machine is used to build subways and in the following video the whole process of how it is built is presented. The subway makes a busy lifestyle much easier and moving through peak time traffic is no problem. The machine is used for excavating tunnels and is called the Herrenknecht`s Earth Pressure Balance Shield, or simply known as the HEPBS. It is 40 feet in diameter and staggering 312 feet long. The mega machine is capable of digging up to 1,000 feet of earth per week!

The basic concept of how it works is pretty straightforward; hydraulic cylinders press the huge round grinder forwards into the ground. When in optimal operation, the HEPBS is capable of excavating 96,000 metric tons of soil per week.

At the same time, it lines the tunnel walls with concrete sections piece by piece. It basically does the job by itself. It is also one of the most expensive machines ever built but is also one of the most efficient.

How good can that be! What do you think, is there any other mega machine similar to this one?
